Buner girls protest teachers` shortage in college

BUNER: Students of Government Degree College for Girls, Daggar, on Monday blocked road to vehicular traffic in protest against shortage of teaching and other staff.

The students were chanting slogans against the government and the education authorities and demanded appointment of staff to the college. They said 1,600 girls students were enroIIed in the college but a skeleton staff taught them. They said 11 posts of lecturers were lying vacant.

The protesting students deplored that the college administration had hired male teachers and staff for canteen, which was embarrassing for them. They demanded of the education department to appoint local female staff to the vacant posts. They also demanded that female staff should be hired for the cafeteria and hostel canteen because the girl students were feeling discomfort in the presence of male staff.

Assistant commissioner Asad Sarwar and DPO Mohammad Irshad Khan rushed to the spot to convince the protesting students to end blockade of the road.

Later, the protesting students held a meeting with the recently transferred principal Anwar Noor in presence of MPA Mufti Fazal Ghafoor. The college head said the present situation had been continuing for the last four years, saying notices had been issued to male teaching and canteen staff to leave the college.-Correspondent
