Headmistresses refuse to be in schools during winter vacations

TIMERGARA: Headmistresses of government girls primary schools here on Monday demanded of the education department to review the decision asking them to ensure their presence at schools during the winter vacations.

In a statement, several headmistresses said their families were not allowing them to remain present at schools during winter vacations when no students or other staffers were there.

Through a circular, the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa elementary and secondary education departmenthas asked relevant officials to ensure presence of schools` principals, headmasters and head teachers in schools during winter vacations.

The primary schools` headmistresses said it was difficult for them to remain present at their duty station as they had no transport or residential facilities.

They said as majority of schools had young watchmen their families were not allowing them to go there without students and other staff.

District education officer, female, Zaib ul Nissa and deputy district officer Shaheen Begum told Dawn on contact that they had nothing to do with the issue asthe directives had been issued by the secretary education.

However, they said presence of schools` heads was necessary as construction work in many schools had been in progress and monitoring teams paid visits during winter vacations.

DISABLE MAN`S COURAGE: Sixty-year-old Mohammad Amin alias `Shala Mochi` is a role model for those not bogged down by any handicap in their lives.

Amin, whose got paralysed in both his legs after he suffered high fever in his childhood, has been in the field for over 38 years sitting just outside the deputy commissioner`s office inBalambat.

He told Dawn that in 1975 he went to Karachi to earn a living for his poor family, but there he got into a brawl with a local man that landed him into the jail.

It was there in the jail, he added that he learnt cobbling during his three-month prison term.

Amin said on return to his native town he started working as cobbler in the Balambat bazaar.

He said he was able to earn from Rs500 to Rs600 daily.

He advised people to not let anything prevent them from achieving goals in their lives.

INTERVIEWS FOR TEACHERS: The Lower Dir ele-mentary and secondary education department, female, on Monday asked top ten qualifiers of NTS test to appear for interviews on respective dates along with attested copies of their testimonials for teachers` recruitment.

A notification issued by the district education officer, female, Zaib ul Nissa, said interview for primary schoolteachers would be held on Jan 11 at government girls centennial model high school, Timergara; interviews for CT posts would be held on Jan 12 while for recruitment against DM, PET, TT, AT and Qaria posts interviews would be held on Jan 13.
