Lakki elders affirm support to peace efforts

LAKKI MARWAT: Security officials and Naurang town elders have decided to make joint efforts for maintenance of peace and curbing militancy in the district.

The determination was made ata meeting held at the army base camp at Serai Naurang here on Wednesday. Elders, including retired educationist Mohammad Aslam, former nazim Mohammad Ishaq, Iqbal Hussain advocate, Naurang circle SDPO Liaquat Shah and other officials attended the meeting.

The participants agreed that Afghan nationals who did not possess legal documents would not be allowed to stay in the area. The officials asked the elders to share information about illegally staying Afghan nationals with the local administration. Army officialsasked the elders to also inform the administration before renting out houses to the internally displaced persons of North Waziristan Agency.

On this occasion, the elders said that they were confident that the law-enforcement agencies would improve the law and order situation in the district. They said that they would provide full support to the efforts for maintenance of peace.

Also on Wednesday, district police officer Ismail Kharak held a meeting with Bettanni tribal elders at his office and asked them toassist the police in ensuring effective monitoring of the border between the Lakki district and frontier tribal region so that infiltration of miscreants from tribal area to the settled parts of the district could be stopped.

ARRESTED: Police on Wednesday arrested three proclaimed offenders and one alleged drug pusher during a search operation in rural areas bordering the frontier tribal region.

An official said that Tajori police station officials had arrested three outlaws, including Qismatullah, Dilawar and ShahidKamal, during a raid and seized illegal weapons from them.

Separately, Lakki police raided a house in Surband village and seized one kilogramme of hashish from there.

Meanwhile, police project coordination unit director general Karim Khan has directed the contractors and other relevant people to complete the police lines project without delay. During a visit to the under-construction police lines at Tajazal on Wednesday, he directed Lakki SDPO to regularly monitor the construction work and submit progress report to him.
