Lakki jirga vows to keep check on militants

LAKKI MARWAT: A jirga of Ahmadzai tribe has assured the police of launching concerted efforts to stop infiltration of miscreants into the district from the adjoining tribal region.

The jirga held at Bakhmal Ahmadzai village the other day was attended by elders from different clans. District Police Officer Ismail Kharak and other police officials were also in attendance. The elders reiterated that they would not allow miscreants to use their soil for carrying out sabotage activities.

`There is no room for anti-social elements and miscreants in Ahmadzai area bordering the frontier tribal region,` they maintained.

They informed the district police chief that the contractor had stopped work on bridge atChal Nungar nullah due to security concerns and threats. They said the bridge would connect dozens of border villages with urban localities of the district.

Speaking at the meeting, DPO Ismail Kharak lauded tribesmen for foiling several terrorist attacks in the past. He assured that policemen would be deputed at the bridge site to keep vigil on movements of anti social elements and provide security to the labourers.

POLYTECHNIC INSTITUTE: PPP Senator Usman Saifullah Khan has said work on government polytechnic institute would soon be completed enabling students to get technical education near their homes.

He was talking to journalists during a visit to the under-construction institute at Ghaznikhel on Saturday. PPP ex-provincial chief and former federal minister Anwar Saifullah Khan also ac-companied him.

The senator directed quarters concerned to accelerate pace of work on the project. He also directed the project contractor and officials of communication and works department to ensure use of quality material.

TREE PLANTATION: District scout secretary Nisar Mohammad on Saturday inaugurated a tree plantation campaign by planting a sapling on the premises of Government Higher Secondary School, Masha Mansoor here.

The school`s principal Mohammad Umar, teachers, scouts and elders were present on the occasion.

The district scout secretary, who also holds the office of assistant district officer, physical education and sports, said the boy scout association would monitor the plantation drive in every school of the district.
