Punjab seeks progress report on terrorism cases

RAWALPINDI: The Punjab government has sought progress report on terrorism, extortion and target killing cases reported to the Rawalpindi police since December 2013, it has been learnt.

The sources said after receiving the directives, the prosecutor general Punjab has called a meeting of Joint Investigation Teams (JITs) on Wednesday.

According to the police statistics, 14 cases of terrorism and target killing had been reported to the Rawalpindi district police since December 2013, while one case of terrorism was reported to the Attock district police on December 7, 2013 on the complaint of Khawar Hussain Shah.

Khawar, who owns a drug store at a private medical complex, complained to the police that an explosive device planted outside his drug store detonated after midnight, though no person was killed or injured the window panes of nearby buildings were smashed.

Though the joint investigation team had launched a probe but it could not make any progress in the case.

The investigation into Gracey Lane suicide bombing, in which three policemen were killed outside Imambargah Qasar-i-Shabir, too is lying pending.

Same is the case with the suicide attack on army personnel outside the military headquarters in R.A Bazaar.

According to the police sources, all the cases have not made any progress.
