PTI comes down hard on `N` for `lavish` Metro launch

By Our Staff Reporter 2015-04-30
LAHORE: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Punjab President Ejaz Chaudhry lambasted the Sharif brothers for running a `royal democracy` and deciding to spend Rs120 million from the public exchequer to hold a lavish launch ceremony of the Islamabad-Rawalpindi metro bus project.

`There is no limit to corruption in the PML-N governments as it is free loot for them and the whole ruling elite,` he observed.

In a statement on Wednesday, Chaudhry said the government was hiring special chartered planes for ambassadors of Turkey and China as well as other countries. He said Pakistan being a poor county could not afford such wasteful spending.

He stressed the Sharif brothers should check their priorities if they really wanted to do something for Pakistan. People did not pay taxes from their hard-earned money for unaccountable government spending, he said.

General Secretary Dr Yasmin Rashid said being a poor country where `60pc of the people lived under the poverty line` there was no rationale for this multi-million launch ceremony. She said this Metro Bus project would benefit a few thousand people in a population of 188 million poor masses.

`Public does not need these mega projects; they only demand basic necessities.

But, the greedy and corrupt government keeps fuelling billions just to fill the pocl(ets of their cronies,` she said.

Information Secretary Andaleeb Abbas said the rulers were continuously robbing public money without considering that hundreds and thousands of youths were still unemployed.
