FAISALABAD: State Minister for Water and Power Abid Sher Ali told reporters on Saturday 21,000 megawatt (MW) production would be ensured till July 2017.

He inaugurated a 132-KB steam power station where he said the acceptance of a Hanif Abbasi`s petition for hearing on Imran Khan and Jehangir Tareen`s assets, had panicked the rivals of the PML-N. He said the grid station had been completed in a record time of six months and he announced one-month salary as bonus for officials.

He said necessary directives had been issued to power distribution companies to remove system constraints before Ramazan so that brownouts could be eliminated.

He said the previous governments did not increase production while the transmission system was outdated.

Acting chief executive officer of the Faisalabad Electric Supply Company Nizamuddin Marwat said the grid station was desperately needed due to continuous increase in demand of power demand in new commercial plazas, business centres and residences in the localities of Canal Road, Amin Town, Jhumra Road and Madina Town.

He said the grid station would provide relief to 66 and 132-KV old thermal and 132-KV Nishatabad grid stations.
