KARACHI: Tension prevailed at the Karachi University campus on Thursday following a brawl between two student groups over a cricket match on Wednesday. One student was injured in the fight.

`There was a serious likelihood today that a fight could erupt again so we spent the entire day counselling students to cool down their emotions,` said KU student adviser Dr Ansar Rizvi.

The scuffle, he explained, occurred when male and female students were playing a cricket match together in the ground. Another student group objected to this activity which led to a clash.

`One student identified as Mohammad Saguib of the public administration department received minor head injuries while the girls who tried to protect their colleagues were also hit but were not injured,` he said, adding that the Rangers took away four students but later released them on the university administration`s request.

Meanwhile, a KU student who suddenly fell ill in the university later died at a hospital due to a heart attack.

Twenty-year-old Mohammad Ashraf was a student of honours first year in the philosophy department.
