KHAR: People have complained that the Nadra`s swift registration centre in Khar here has been non-functional for last two weeks owing to unknown reasons.

Taking to Dawn on Saturday, they said for last two weeks officials at the centre had been telling them that the Nadra centre was non-functional due to a technical fault. They said that people, particularly those coming from remote areas, were greatly troubled. They said the of ficials were not telling them exactly what was the fault and when it would be fixed.

I have been visiting the swif t registration centre for last two weeks to get my CNIC, but operation at the centre remains suspended for unknown reasons,` said Akhtar Gul.Arahad Khan, a resident of Barang, said he had been coming to the centre for over a week, but the guard didn`t allow him to enter the centre.

An of ficial in the Nadra swift registration centre told Dawn on contact that a technical fault in its generator system had affected the routine activities. He said the centre largely depended on the generator due to prolonged loadshedding.

He said concerned authority had been urged to repair the generator without delay.

STUDENTS PROTEST: The students of Government Postgraduate College, Khar, staged a protest demonstration against suspension of their annual scholarships.

The students blocked the Khar-Timergara road outside the college for over two hours, chanting slogans against the federal government, Safron ministry, Fata Secretariat andlocal political administration. They said the federally-funded scholarships remained suspended since March.

They also assailed the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor for not fulfilling his promise to restore the scholarships by September end.

They said suspension of scholarships had disappointed them as it was the only incentive from the federal government to the students of backward tribal areas, which had been continuing since 1974.

They vowed to step up their struggle to force the government to restore the scholarships.

The students appealed to the prime minister, federal minister for Safron and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa governor to take personal interest in restoring the annual scholarships so they could focus their attention on their studies instead of holding protests.
