ISLAMABAD, May 23: The solo exhibition of paintings by Faiza Khan, who
is fascinated with figurative and has
passion to paint, opened at Hunekada
here on Saturday.
“I can express better when I paint
figures - females mostly - because the
subject inspires me the most,” said the
bright young artist at the opening day.
Faiza returns to the local art scene
after five years with nearly 30 works in
vibrant, colourful and figurative patterns.
This freelance artist has her own
style and the mood of the exhibition is
poignant. “This is my reaction to all the
sadness that surrounds us in these difficult times,” Faiza said explaining her
works.
Her art is not about making judgments or defining a person but about
capturing a moment when they have
let go of societal, mental, physical or
cultural constraints and are subconsciously released to express.
“What makes figurative art my focus
is my love of the differences from person to person, face to face, limb to limb,
emotion to emotion. And while emotion is my primary focus, there is a battle between an ultimate expression of a
moment in time and the allure of the
paint itself. The material and concept
take turns leading my hand throughout
my process,” she said.
She paints bold figures, busts, bodies
halved or full length figures sitting, lying and standing while colours seem
like flying around in all her works Triumph in blue, Eve, bars of adornment, persisting lines, mirror, graceless
desire besides so many of the rest.
Faiza barely leaves any empty space
on canvass and tries to decorate every
corner with bold strokes of oranges,
reds, bright yellows that in one way or
the other symbolise recollected images
and happenings around her.
“And if I can connect with one per son in the world for one second in life,
I believe I have succeeded,” she said.
The exhibition will run till May 29.
