BAHAWALPUR: The health department has terminated from service two officials and suspended another five for their alleged negligence in the recent anti-polio campaign.

Those whose services were terminated are: Dr Basit and health nutrition Hafiz Mueed.

District Health Authority Chief Executive Officer Dr. Saeed Asghar told Dawn that action against the employees had been taken in a meeting chaire d by Deputy Commissioner Rana Muhammad Saleem Afzal.

Dr. Saeed said the officials had made fake entries in the relevant cards of the anti-polio drive. The WHO teams had found entriesforged during a surprise scrutiny.

Meanwhile, Preventive Programme District Coordinator Dr.

Zakir Husain said WHO teams were busy randomly combing through the record of 14 union councils out of 120 UCs to ascertain the effectiveness of the anti-polio campaigns launched in the district off and on.

He claimed that seven UCs had been declared polio virus free.

HIGH COURT BAR: High court har association`s two presidential candidates Mian Nawazish Ali Peerzada and Chaudhry Noor Hassan, who secured 1,016 votes each on Feb 25, have agreed to avail themselves of presidential powers for six months.

This was stated by Election Board Chairman Ghazanfar Ali here on Tuesday.

According to chairman, MianNawazish, a PPP-backed candidate who ran for the second term, will be the president for first term. Noor Hassan, enjoying the support of PML-N activists, would be delegated powers after six months.

Noor Hassan told this correspondent that the first six-month term would complete on Aug 31 and he would assume office from Sept 1, 2017.

PUBLICITY WAT ERFA LL: Parks and Horticulture Authority (PHA) Chairman MPA Shoaib Owaisi on Tuesday inaugurated a publicity waterfall at Seraiki Chowk.

According to PHA Director Rana Qaddafi, the publicity waterfall is the first-ever project of its kind. He said the project was aimed at bringing about novelty in publicity. `The PHA intends to introduce such creative projects in the city in the future.
