RAWALPINDI: The inspector general of police Punjab has directed the city police officer (CPO) Rawalpindi, Attock district police officer and Lahore capital city police officer to submit data related to the May 9, 2023 riots.
The direction was issued from the AIG legal to the police officers citing a letter from the office of the prosecutor general Punjab, for submission to the Supreme Court of Pakistan. Sources said the IGP office had sought the list of total number of registered cases and details of FIRs with current trial status. In addition, the notification about the constitution of the joint investigation team (JIT) in each case has also been sought.
The police have been directed to send reports of the JIT in each case, total losses/damages faced by the state, and home department reports as well as details and total number of injured persons, police officials and private persons along with the total number of deaths.
The sources said the relevant police had been directed to send the details of cases being fixed before bench 1 of the Supreme Court.
