HYDERABAD: National Peoples Party (NPP) chief and Grand Democratic Alliance (GDA) leader Ghulam Munaza Jatoi was released from the Special Prison Nara on Friday.
His spouse, Naveen Jatoi, had come to the prison and produced to the jail authodties a copy of Sindh High Court, Larkana circuit bench order issued a day earlier on a contempt plea filed by her.
The pHson administration then allowed Mr Jatoi to walk free.
The politician was shifted to the Nara Prison from Naushahro Feroz last week after he was booked in multiple cases. He was granted bail in these cases in the following days and was about to be released, but the Sukkur police obtained his judicial remand in a case registered at the Bagerji police station while he was under treatment at the Liaquat University Hospital for treatment of chest pain. Eventually, Mr Jatoi was esconed back to the prison from the hospital, prompting his wife to move the high coun.
His wife filed a contempt petition pleading that the high court had already restrained police from booking or arresting her spouse without the court`s permission. The plea was taken up on Feb 27 and during the proceedings, the court expressed its displeasure over registration of cases against the leader without intimation to the court.
The coun suspended operation of the 14-day remand order issued by Sukkur`s judicial magistrate-Il vide an FIR (No.17/24).
