Two murdered in city

LAHORE: Two people, including a woman, were killed in as many incidents in the city on Tuesday.

In the first incident, Shakuran, 40, of Dubai Town was allegedly attacked by her four neighbours when her husband, brother and son were fitting a sewer pipe in the street.

He said his wife came out of the house to rescue her son and Shafgat attacked her with a hockey. Abbas said his wife fell onto the ground and was taken to hospital where she succumbed to her wounds.

Nawab Town police registered a murder case against Shafgat, his father and two brothers on the complaint of Ghulam Abbas and arrested the suspects.

In another incident, a young man was shot dead allegedly by his brother-in-law over a family dispute in Taj Bagh.

Talha, 21, of Taj Bagh was on his way by a car when his brother-in-law Ali Hasanstopped him at Taj Bagh railway crossing. The suspect after exchange of harsh words shot at and injured Talha and managed his escape.

Rescue 1122 shifted the injured to Mayo Hospital where he could not survive.

Police shifted the body to city morgue for autopsy and registered a case against the suspect on the complaint of the victim`s brother.

A police official said initial inquiries showed that Hassan`s wife had started living with her parents and filed a divorce case.

He said the suspect was annoyed with his in-laws over the divorce issue and he shot dead his brother-in-law.

DIES: A man succumbed to his burns at Mayo Hospit al on Tuesday, a day after attempting suicide following his failure to win over his estranged wife.

Asif, 32, of Gulshan-iRavi, went to his in-laws` house in Islampura to bring his estranged wife back.

When he could not convince her, he took out petrol from his motorcycle, sprinkled it on his clothes and put himself on fire outside the house.

Asif suffered critical burns and was shifted to the hospital where he succumbed to his burns.
