800 acres of state land `retrieved` from grabbers

BAHAWALPUR: The Cholistan Development Authority (CDA) claim to have retrieved as many as 800 acres of state land in a massive operation in several desert area villages from illegal occupants during the last two days.

According to CDA, Zulfiqar, Ramzan and others had been in illegal possession of the state land for many years in the villages No 151, 152, 153, 154, 155/ DN Band, 156/ DRB in Yazman tehsil. The grabbers had been illegally cultivating the state land with the alleged connivance of the CDA local field staff.

CDA Managing Director Naeem Bokhari ordered an operation against theland grabbers.

Accordingly, CDA revenue teams supported by lawenforcing agencies got vacated the land and seized the occupants` tractor-trollies and other agriculture machinery, besides their fertilisers` stock.

The raiding teams confiscated the standing crops,including wheat, sown on hundreds of acres, demolished the makeshift residences there and registered cases against the land grabbers.

MURDER: A boy allegedly strangled his mother to death when she refused to give him money at Jamalpur village near Qaimpur, about 20kms from Hasilpur.

According to police sources, Zahid demanded money from his mother manzooran BiBi who refused to give him the amount.

Infuriated by her refusal, the suspect strangled her to death. He fled away after throwing her body in the fields.

Qaimpur police, on the complaint of victim`s husband, Allah Rakha, registered a murder case against the suspect.

LG POLL: As many as 25 candidates filed their nomination papers during the last three days for the local government election on three seats in as many wards of Bahawalpur Cantonment Board.
