Lakki elders ready to provide land for corporate farming

LAKKI MARWAT: Local elders have said that they are ready to provide their lands for corporate farming to boost agriculture in the district.

They were spealcing at an awareness session held at deputy commissioner compound here on Tuesday. Deputy Commissioner Rahmat Ali Wazir, AC YasirNazir, Brig Ali, MPAs Johar Mohammad Khan and Tariq Saeed, Lakki tehsil council chairman Shafgatullah Khan, Ghaznikhel tehsil council chairman Zeeshan Mohammad Khan, officials of revenue department, local elders and farmers attended the meeting.

Green Corporate Initiative (GCI) regional head retired Brig Shahid briefed the participants about the imitative. He said that the project was meant to turn wastelands into fertile fields to overcome food security issues, enhance income of local growers, boost socio-economic activities and alleviate poverty.

He said that government and army would make the project a success with support of people.

The deputy commissioner said that the district with a vast area could take advantage ofcorporate farming project.

He said that ownership of land would remain with farmers and they would get a hefty share in the yield and income from their lands.

Lawmakers from the district said that local farmers were unable to make huge investment to turn their vast tract of lands into fertile fields owing to shortage resources.

They asked landowners to take advantage of the opportunity as it would bring fortune for them.

Several elders welcomed the initiative and promised to provide their land for corporate farming. Former city nazim Malik Motabar Khan said that he was ready to provide 500 acres of land for corporate farming.

BODY: The body of a teenage boy was retrieved from the Kurrum River in Lakki Marwat district on Tuesday.

An official said that locals spotted the body in the river in AzeemMarmandi area of Naurang town and informed Rescue 1122.

He said that a team of divers rushed to the site and retrieved the body from the river.

The body was shifted to tehsil headquarters hospital in Naurang for identification.
