Over 360 students awarded degrees at SMIU convocation

KARACHI: Over 360 graduates were awarded degrees at the fifth convocation of the Sindh Madressatul Islam University here.
Sindh Governor Kamran Tessori, who is the chancellor of all public sector universities in the province, was the chief guest.
As many as 367 students of four different batches belonging to the faculty of management, business administration and commerce, information technology, social sciences and education were awarded degrees at a local hotel.
The governor awarded gold medals to Hiba Abdul Naeem and Raheel and silver medals to seven graduates Danish U1 Hassan, Hiba Abdul Naeem, Mahreen, Muhammad Hannan Hassan Ali, Raheel, Saba Jalil and Maham.
On this occasion, Waseem Bozdar, graduate from the Class of 2022, department of Media and Communication Studies of SMIU, delievered the valedictory speech.
Speaking on the occasion, Governor Tessori said that it was a pleasure for him to preside over the convocation of such a great and historicinstitution, where Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah had received his early education.
Congratulating the fresh graduates, he advised them to follow the footprints of the father of the nation who devoted his entire life for the good of the nation.
He said that the country needed services,skills, passion, loyalty, patriotism, compassion and intelligence of our youth.
`Most of the times brilliant minds follow western dreams and leave our country which ultimately benefits them individually and host countries at large but their own country is deprived of their great talent,` he said, adding:`Our young generation should understand that the circumstances our country is going through are very crucial at this moment. In these hard times, you have to be a great support to your country with your skills and talent.
The governor announced two coasters/buses and a computer lab comprising 50 computers for SMIU.
Earlier, in his welcome address SMIU Vice Chancellor Dr Mujeebuddin Sahrai Memon said he felt highly content and pleased to congratulate his dearest students and their proud parentsfortheir presence in the convocation.
`SMIU carries a legacy of 140 years with credit of producing visionary leadership, educationists, sports champions,` he said.
Speaking on the occasion, Sindh Higher Education Commission chairman Dr Tariq Rafi congratulated the students, vice chancellor, faculty and other staff on organising the successful convocation.
The convocation was attended by Turkish Consul General Cemal Sangu, members of SMIU Senate and Syndicate member, vice chancellor of different universities, academicians, government officials, parents of the graduating students, faculty and officers of SMIU.
