Security, stability go hand in hand

THIS is with reference to the editorial `Lessons from history` (May 24) which lookedback on a particular episode in what has definitely been a troubled history, starting from the 1950s. The editorial was right in suggesting that it would take a lot more to avenge the 1971 debacle.
The courageousresponsebythe Pakistan Air Force (PAF), under a wellcoordinated strategy with Pakistan Army and Pakistan Navy along with the blessings of the political executive, clearly repulsed the Indian offensive and inflicted losses on the enemy. However, let us not get carried away by the current euphoria.Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi and his Hindutva ideology, with active and enthusiastic support of Zionist partners, are still at helm. They remain possessed with their hatred of Muslims, and the dream of `Akhand Bharat` is very much alive. India has advantage over us with respect to economy and foreign exchange reserves. We, in contrast, are still very much a debt-ridden country.
We have weathered the storm, but we must be prepared for the worst, and not let our guards down. How many within political and paid elite of this country are willing to pay their fair share of taxes to boost the national economy? Let us not deny the fact that our national security hinges on national economy.
Pakistan was definitely not created to become a haven for real estate. It was carved out to become a welfare state for all it s citizens.
Our leadership should emulate the commitment of Chinese leaders. They do not own assets abroad, or have not chosen to settle their families abroad. Can we do that? Of course, we can, but will we? Now that is a question that needs an answer.
