GILGIT: Police in Diamer on Saturday arrested a man for allegedly sexually assaulting a lady health worker (LHW) at the Mother and Child Healthcare Centre (MCH) in Goharavad village.

On the complaint of the victim, an FIR had been registered on Friday. The FIR said the suspect forcibly entered the MCH and sexually assaulted the LHW who was on duty. When she resisted, the suspect physically attacked her, injuring her and disrupting official operations.

According to a statement, on the directives of District Police Officer (DPO) Abdul Hameed, a special team was formed. The suspect had fled to a remote area and was hiding in a narrow mountain nallah. After extensive efforts, the police arrested the suspect and shifted him to the police station.

The incident had led to an outcry on social media demanding safety and protection of women at workplaces. Civil society members commended police for their swift response. Correspondent
