POVERTY means the lack of basic human needs, such as clean water, clothes, shelter and education.

When the supply of money increases and value of money decreases, the prices of goods rise up; it is called inflation.

In today`s era, people are suffering from various complications. Some people are committing suicide due to poverty and inflation.

Besides, the poverty and inflation level inPakistanisincreasing day by day and more than 40pc people within the country are living their lives below the poverty line. On an average, they are earning less than Rs125 a day.

The cost of petrol is increasing day by day, which affects the prices of other commodities as well.

Furthermore, 52pc of the total population in Balochistan lives below the povertyline;so does 33pc ofthe population in Khyber-Palchtunlchwa and 19pc of that of Punjab.

The prices of flour, sugar and rice go sky high during Ramazan and so does the cost of vegetables. All of these are out of the reach of the poor.

It is time that the government did something about poverty and inflation.
