TAXILA:Thoughofficialrecordsofthe traffic police in Taxila show that dozens of wardens are deputed on the roads in order to ensure the smooth flow of traffic, they cannot be seen on congested roads, especially where traffic jams are frequent.

Traffic officers only seem to be on duty when a VVIP is passing through.

Road accidents are also very common,especially on the Taxila Chowk, Faisal Shaheed Road, Thatta Khalil Road, HMC Road and Railway Road and Fridays are especially busy on roads to the timber and cattle markets.

There is no one to keep an eye on underage rickshaw drivers, who drive recklessly and also without licenses. Even the Tehsil Municipal Administration isnot taking action against the many rickshaws and taxis parked along Faisal Shaheed Road, Mughal Market and railway Road.Also, despite a ban on the traffic wardens attending calls on their mobile phones which was imposed by the Inspector General of Police, many officers can be seen texting and making calls.-Correspondent
