Four members of SSP`s squad die, three others hurt as van falls into ditch

SUKKUR: Four members of KandhkotKashmore SSP`s security squad were killed and three others critically injured when the mobile van they were riding overturned and plunged into a roadside ditch at the Macchi Bundo locality along Indus Highway on Sunday.

According to sources, the squad was on its way toSukkur Airport, where the SSP, Bashir Ahmed Brohi, was to arrive from Karachi. The squad was assigned the task of escorting the senior police officer to his office in Kandhkot.

According to the Karampur police, the speeding mobile van overturned after its tie-rod broke up and the vehicle went out of its driver`s control. It plunged into the roadside ditch, they added.They identified the deceased policemen as Ghulam Yasin, Waqar Ali Lashari, Mohammad Ismail Gabol and Talib Hussain Soomro.

The injured policemen, Shahid Pathan, Abdul Hafeez Ogahi and Zahoor Khoso, were rushed to the Kandhkot Civil Hospital where doctors provided them emergency treatment and then referred them to the Sukkur Civil Hospital due to their critical condition.SSP Brohi also visited the hospital to inquire about the health of the injured policemen.

The four bodies were brought to the District Police Headquarters, where funeral prayers were offered. The Kandhkot-Kashmore deputy commissioner and SSP, Qambar-Shahdadkot SSP, Rangers wing commander and other senior officials and police officers of the two districts attended the funeral.
