2016-08-01
MIRPURKHAS: A women police squad raided a house in Gulshan-i-Sulaiman Colony here on Saturday and stopped marriage of an underage girl after receiving information about the marriage ceremony from the first wife of the prospective groom.

Moomal Leghari, Station House Officer of the Mirpurkhas women police station, told Dawn that police conducted the raid after having received a complaint from one Eshrat aka Kanwal, wife of Ali Nawaz Khokhar, that her husband was marrying an underage girl, Rasheeda Begum.

Police recovered the would-be bride whose age appeared to be between 14 and 15 years and brought her to Mirpurkhas civil hospital for medical checkup to ascertain her age, said the SHO.

She said the marriage had been stopped. Police would take further action after receiving the girl’s medical report, she added.—Correspondent
