MULTAN: Veteran politician Javed Hashmi on Monday alleged that Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) chairman Imran Khan had told him during the 2014 sit-in that judges would dissolve the assembly.
“I am disclosing this on oath. I want you (Imran Khan) and other PTI leaders present on that occasion to deny it on oath,” he told reporters.
Mr Hashmi said Mr Khan had further told him that a technocrats government would be constituted, which would hold next elections in two months.
“The PTI would win as no one would be able to compete with us,” he quoted Mr Khan as saying.
Mr Hashmi claimed that when he told Mr Khan that this situation would give the army a pretext to intervene, the PTI leader said that everything would be okay.
He recalled that before the start of the long march to Islamabad for the sit-in, a charter of demands was prepared which included a plea for the formation of a technocrats government.
Mr Hashmi claimed that the PTI chief had agreed to drop this demand when he threatened to leave the party.
“During the sit-in, I was told by some PTI leaders that the judges would cancel their annual holidays to complete the task as claimed by the PTI chief. And when they did that, I decided to resign (from PTI),” he alleged.
“I request the Supreme Court chief justice to order an investigation into my claims and summon me. I am ready to face any consequences,” he said. However, it is not clear why Mr Hashmi has taken so long to make these claims and allegations.
Mr Hashmi said he was disappointed at the Supreme Court’s decision to disqualify an elected prime minister over what he called flimsy grounds. “I would have been happy had the SC convicted him of corruption. Jurists in the entire world are baffled over the verdict,” he said.
Mr Hashmi said he had asked the PML-N ministers to urge Nawaz Sharif to improve his working relationship with the army if he wanted to complete his term. He criticised former military dictator Pervez Musharraf , terming him an absconder and coward.
