Zahir Jaffer`s physical remand extended again

ISLAMABAD: A judicial magistrate of Islamabad on Saturday extended physical remand of Zahir Zahir Jaffer, the alleged murderer of Noor Mukadam for two days.

The police produced Zahir Jaffer before civil judge/judicial magistrate Shoaib Akhtar and sought his further remand for another three days.

Jaffer is under the police custody since July 20 when he was arrested from his F-7/4 residence in Islamabad.

According to the prosecution, the police required custody of the accused for further probe and recovery of further evidence.

The investigating officer informed the judge that the police have examined 40 hours long CCTV footage which transpired some new facts and characters which may be associated with the crime.

Counsel for Noor Mukadam`s father also argued in favour of extending physical remand.

However, the defence counsel opposed the extension saying that since the police had already recovered the evidence and carried out polygraph test of the accused, therefore, he might be sent to jail on judicial remand.

The court, however, allowed police to retain custody of accused till Aug2.

The judge directed the police to carry out medical checkup of the accused and produce him before the court on Aug 2. Malik Asad
