Lawyers hold demo for case against medics

FAISALABAD: A group of lawyers staged a demonstration at the District Council Chowk against Civil Lines police for not registering a case against doctors and the medical superintendent of the Allied Hospital on charges of torturing two lawyers.

The protesting lawyers also tried to enter the CPO ofñce by pushing the security staff and returned finding the city police officer unavailable.

Ayub Khan, a lawyer, alleged in his application KledonSundaythathealong with fellow lawyer Naveed had gone to Allied Hospital surgical ward 3 on Saturday last to donate blood to a patient. Khan said he asked Dr Faisal about the patient`s blood group and his health.

He said the doctor got infuriated as he was talkingon his mobile phone. He alleged that Dr Faisal used abusive language and also manhandled him. In the meantime, Dr Nasir, Dr Waqas and 15 other medics also came.

Khan said: `The doctors snatched our phones, a wallet carrying Rs30,000 and some important documents.

He alleged that doctors had also detained them at a ward and tortured at the behest of the medical superintendent.

Protesting against the police on Monday, first lawyers staged a demonstration at the District Council Chowk and then headed towards the CPO office. The lawyers shoved security personnel to make their way to the CPO office. They staged a demonstration outside the CPO office, chanted slogans against police and demande d registration of a case against the medics.

A police of ficer requesting anonymity told Dawn that investigation was under way and a case against doctors would be registered if allegations proved true.
