Jaranwala tragedy condemned

KARACHI: The Shura Hamdard Karachi strongly condemned the Jaranwala tragedy and urged the government to take decisive actions against those involved in this incident.

The monthly meeting, which was held on Thursday, was chaired by Shura speaker retired Lt Gen Moinuddin Haider.

Hamdard Foundation president Sadia Rashid also attended the meeting.

Retired Justice Rukhsana Ahmed explained that the idea of the rule of law and the authority of justice shape the order within a country. `It involves giving fair treatment to all citizens ofthe state according to the rule of law, without any bias based on race, colour, language, religion, gender, caste, political stance, economic and social position, or geographic location. This is a fundamental duty of a state.

`The Jaranwala tragedy represents a severe kind of prevalent violent extremism, which continues to grow in our society completely unchecked. Such a phenomenon necessitates a comprehensive strategy to stop such incidents from happening again, she said.

Dr Amjad Jafri mentioned that the frequent incidents of people committing physical violence against domestic helps, particularly children, served as an embodiment of social abnormality.

Dr Amir Taseen saidthat it is incorreet to solely associate the concept of law with just the courts or law enforcement as the genuine understanding of respecting the law is intertwined with every aspectof any society.

Retired Colonel Mukhtar Ahmed Butt, Naushaba Khalil Sattar, former Senator Abdul Haseeb Khan and others also spoke.
