Drug trafficker jailed for 10 years

KARACHI: A special court (Control of Narcotic Substance) on Thursday sentenced an accused to 10-year imprisonment in a drug trafficking case.
Mukhtiar Khan was found guilty of carrying 1,040 grammes of hashish within the jurisdiction of Quaidabad police station on March 17 this year.
Judge Liaqat Ali Khoso also imposed a fine of Rs300,000 on the convict to be paid to the state treasury. On default, he would have to undergo an additional four-month imprisonment.
According to the prosecution, Mukhtiar Khan was arrested near Ahsan playground near Mustafa Masjid.
It further mentioned that the cops seized a shopping bag containing1,040 grammes of hashish from his possession.
During the trial, the accused denied the allegations and claimed innocence.He alleged that the policemen had implicated him in the case with malafide intentions to achieve their ulterior motives, and pleaded the judge to acquit him of the `false and fabricated` allegations.
On the other hand, the state prosecutor contended that the chemical analysis of the seized material had confirmed that it was contraband, adding that the testimonies of the witnesses and other material evidence fully established the charge against the accused.
The prosecutor pleaded the judge to punish the accused in accordance with the law.
A case was registered under Sections 6, 9(1)(3) (c) of the Control of Narcotic Substance Act, 1997, at the Quaidabad police station on the complaint of Inspeet or Nadeem Riaz.-Staff Reporter
