APROPOS Afshan Subohi`s article `Squeeze on nominal NSS rates of return` (Dawn Business and Finance Sept 21) and the letter `Squeeze on NSS rates` by Moin Mohajir (Sept 25).
The reduction of discount rates by the State Bank of Pakistan and the consequent lowering of NSS rates have a negative impact on persons wholly or substantially dependent for their living on profit from investments in national saving schemes.
I am also hurt by the plight of the senior citizens and widows. The government should bring out a scheme to lessen the hardship faced by such persons.
