HMC drive against encroachment

HYDERABAD: The Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (HMC) on Wednesday removed over 100 roadside stalls besides demolishing ovens (Tandoor) and immoveable structures to clear roads, streets and pavements in various areas of the city.
A complaint was lodged at the Makki Shah police station.
They said the drive would be completed before the advent of Muharram.
HMC anti-encroachment cell director Syed Asim Abbas Zaidi said that four of his subordinate staff three officers and a loader were injured in a clash between the demolition staff and encroachers in the Naya Pul area.
He identified the victims as Bager Zaidi, Qamar, Irfan Siddiqui and Naeem Ahmed (loader).
Mr Zaidi, along with the of ficial in charge of the cell, Tauheed Ahmed Khan, told the media that encroachments put up on thoroughfares in Hirabad, Tower Market, Liberty Chowk, Tilak Incline, Gari Khata, Naya Pul and other areas were removed or demolished.
