27 arrested; weapons recovered

LAHORE: The Pakistan Rangers-Punjab, in coordination with the law enforcement agencies, has arrested 27 suspects in twin cities and other areas of the province.

A statement issued here by Inter-services Public Relations (ISPR) said the arrests were made in intelligence-based operations in Rawalpindi, Islamabad, Multan, DG Khan, Lahore, Sialkot, Bahawalnagar, Bahawalpur and Rahim Yar Khan.

During these operations illegal weapons were also recovered, the statement said, adding the suspects were being interrogated.

According to the ISPR, the Rangers, along with police also carried out patrolling/ flag marches in important areas of major cities.

SEARCH OPERATION: The police intensified search operation on Saturday and took into custody over 40 people from various parts of the provincial capital.

According to sources, most of the people were questioned and taken into custody from the surroundings of the areas where the main Zuljinah processions were to be taken out.

The police also searched many rented houses and hotels, besides the outskins of the city from where many people were taken to the respective police stations for interrogation.

The sources said the police released a majority of them after questioning and detained some of them for funher verification.
