MANSEHRA: The Oghi tehsil council on Saturday unanimously adopted a resolution announcing it will support the proposed Abaseen division only if Oghi is made its headquarters.
`We won`t support Abaseen division if Oghi isn`t given the status of its headquarters. In that case, we would like to remain part of Hazara division,` tehsil nazim Raja Bashir told the council.
The nazim said the government`s move to create Abaseen division was appreciable but it will not be welcome if Oghi doesn`t become its headquarters.
The council, which met with convener Qazi Zahidullah in the chair, also adopted resolutions seeking early reconstruction of the Oghi civil hospital destroyed in the 2006 earthquakeand the opening of higher secondary school and civil hospital in Darband area.
The councillor, who tabled the resolution, said it was ironic that the Oghi civil hospital had been functioning in makeshift tents for a long time to the misery of staff members and visitors.
`We demand the immediate reconstruction of its building,` he said.
Councillor Hafiz Younis demanded the appointment of more teachers to nine government higher secondary schools in the tehsil saying most students of these schools have quit education after doing matriculation due to an acute shortage of teaching staff members.
Council members Noorur Rehman and Nawabzada Fareed highlighted the issues of power theft and prolonged loadshedding in tehsil and alleged that the Peshawar Electric Supply Company employees were directly or indirectly involved in electricity theft.They said Pesco sent people innated bills and unduly subjected them to the excessive power outages.
Councillor Abdul Razzaq Tanoli complained that the buildings of government high school and civil hospital in Darband had been in place for many years but they had yet to be handed over to the education and health departments for formal operation.
PROTEST THREATENED: The people of Kohistan on Saturday warned that they would take to the streets if the ZaralTaragiatiBank Limited lodged FIRs against loan defaulters in the district.
`Former prime minister Nawaz Sharif had announced Rs40 million to pay off our agricultural loans with interest but the Zarai Taragiati Bank Limited officials are lodging FIRs against farmers, which is unacceptable to us. We will agitate against it,` Gul Mohammad told reporters in Dasu here.
