ISLAMABAD: In a reversal of its earlier position, the Federal Board of Revenue (FBR) has extended the deadline for filing income tax returns for the tax year 2025 until Oct 15.

The decision marks a departure from the FBR`s earlier stance that no extension would be granted this year, indicating the tax authority has yielded to pressure from trade bodies, tax professionals, and the public.

According to an official announcement, the extension was granted under Section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance 2001. The FBR said it received multiple requests from tax bar associations, chambers of commerce, and individual taxpayers seeking additional time to meet compliance requirements.
