Country`s future depends on economic, industrial growth

GUJRAT: A symposium on `Academia-Industry Linkages` was organised at the UoG by the Office of Research, Innovation and Commercialisation (ORIC), PUM Netherland and Pakistan Electric Fan Manufacturing Association (Pefma).

Prof Dr Faheem Malik inaugurated the opening session of the symposium while MNA Jaafar Iqbal was the chief guest. The objective was to devise a policy for starting a certificate programme/associate degree programme at the university for helping and introducing skilled workers of Pefma industries with modern concepts of knowledge increasing their abilities for achieving excellence in their field of work.

Prof Malik said industrial growth and development were barometers for economic growth. He said all developed economies of the modern world had given special importance to theacademia-industry linkages. He said promotion of research and innovation were the basic responsibility of a university and the industry could benefit from the results of this research based innovation by developing the products.

The MNA said the future of Pakist an was dependent on its economic and industrial growth. He appreciated the role of UoG for strengthening the academia-industrial relations.

LAPTOPS: Laptops and certificates were distributed among MS, MPhil and PhD scholars under the Prime Minister`s Laptop Scheme during a ceremony at the Hafiz Hayat Campus of the University of Gujrat (UoG) on Friday.

The chief guest was MNA Chaudhry Jaafar Iqbal while acting UoG Vice Chancellor (VC) Prof Dr Muhammad Faheem Malik presided over the ceremony. About 1,697 laptops were distributed on merit.

Iqbal said students were guarantors and sponsors of the future of Pakistan.He also said the government was making efforts to facilitate students at each level.

He added that the distribution of laptops among students was an important step towards promotion of higher education in Pakistan in light of progress of technology.

Dr Malik said the government was making efforts for the general welfare of students facilitating them according to the demands of developed technologies.

BUSES: The Punjab government has provided five more buses to the University of Gujrat to cover the shortage of vehicles there.

MNA Jaafar Iqbal handed over 1(eys of the buses to acting Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Faheem Malik during a ceremony on Friday.

The buses were gifted to the university by the Punjab government after MNA Hamza Shahbaz had pledged so during his visit to the UoG around a year ago on the request of the then VC Prof Dr Nizamuddin.
