Hospitals in Islamabad put on high alert

ISLAMABAD: Hospitals in the federal capital have been put on a high alert to meet any emergency in case there are clashes between law enforcement agencies and the PTI workers.

In the meantime, the health authorities appealed to the law enforcement agencies, the district administration as well as the protesters to ensure free movement of ambulances.

At a meeting on Monday, the arrangements in the hospitals were finalised and it was decided that after consultations with the police and the district administration a 15-bed hospital would be set up at the Police Lines.

Three mobile teams were also established to provide on-the-spot treatment to any injured person.

Pakistan Institute of Medical Sciences (Pims) Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram told Dawn that 100 beds had been reserved in different wards of the hospital to treat injured people in case of any clashes.

“As many as 20 ambulances will be on a standby while 500 units of blood of all groups have been arranged. The emergency department has a stock of medicines for over 2,000 patients along with operation logistics to cater to around 500 patients.”

Dr Akram said teams, comprising professors, doctors, nurses, paramedics, security and other staff, had also been set up for Islamabad Hospital and Children’s Hospital. — Ikram Junaidi
