HOW can a nation that has lost its language, religion andculture prosper? This question has been nagging me for the last few days and I have put pen to paper to place my thoughts before the people.
It is a sad reality that the role of Urdu is diminishing slowly in our country. There is a pressing need to revisit our curriculum. Pakistan`s past literary figures have done so much to preserve our language yet we tend to neglect it and forget their efforts.
There is very little or no importance given to Urdu in schools, which is very distressing. The libraries we visit are stacked with English novels and stories while reading in Urdu is no longer prevalent in our youth. Interestingly Iran and the Central Asian countries value the works of Allama Iqbal more than we do.
When Arabic is the language of the Holy Quran, then why is it not our top priority in schools? I fail to understand why schools proudly introduce Chinese, German and French neglecting the language of the Holy Quran.
I am a Pakistani earnestly waiting for change. We need to inculcate language, culture and religion in our education system for a better Pakistan.
