LAHORE: The Hamid Khanled Professional Group on Monday succeeded in grabbing the top slot of the Supreme Court Bar Association after a six-year gap, as Rashid A. Razvi defeated Farooq H. Naek of the Asma Jahangir-led Independent Groupwith a good margin in the elections.
Mr Razvi secured 1,289 votes against the 1,060 bagged by his rival, Mr Naek. The turnout was 81 per cent. He was mainly supported by lawyers affiliated to the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf, Jamaat-i-Islami and a small number of Pakistan Muslim LeagueNawaz`s lawyers` faction.Mr Razvi served as the president of the Sindh High Court Bar Association four times and has been a sitting member of the Pakistan Bar Council.
Aftab Ahmad Bajwa of the Professional Group also notched the slot of secretary. He won by obtaining 1,060 votes against the 945 votes for Safdar Tarar of the Independent group.
