Faizan century sets up win for Landhi Friends

KARACHI, Nov 30: Opener Faizan Khan slammed a brilliant undefeated century as Landhi Friends pulled off a shock nine-wicket victory over fancied Al-Noor Gymkhana in the seventh NBP-KCCA Premier Cricket League match at the Landhi Gymkhana Ground here on Friday.

The young wicket-keeper/batsman made 112 off 99 balls with the help of 16 boundaries while dominating the unbroken second-wicket partnership of 121 with Wajid Ali who contributed 50 off 45 deliveries with five fours and a brace of sixes as Landhi Friends notched up their third win in Group `A` by making 201-1 in only 33 overs.

Hasan Sajjad scored 31 in the opening stand of 80 with Faizan.

Al-Noor Gymkhana had earlier been restricted to 198-8 in the allotted 40 overs. Upcoming all-rounder Ahmed Iqbal hit 58 with three boundaries, Zakir Ali 55 that included just one six and a four, while Shaafat Hussain struck six fours in his unbeaten knock of 51.

Medium-pacer Wasim Ahmed and slow left-armer Mohammad Salman each claimed two wickets.

Six-time winners Pakistan CC head the standings with three straight victories in Group `A` with Landhi Friends also having six points but having played four matches. AlNoor Gymkhana are third with four points from three matches.

Vital Five CC top Group `B` with six points from three wins. They are followed by Pak Korangi CC (six points from three wins in five matches) and Alamgir Gymkhana (five points from two wins and one tie in four matches).
