The Federal Information Ministry, Pakistan Television and the Arts Council of Pakistan, Karachi, have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to institute `National Entertainment Awards` to celebrate the art of film, television drama and music. This has been done as part of the government`s efforts to encourage the entertainment industry so that it can `effectively present the national narrative on a global scale.
Addressing the media on the subject, the federal minister for information and broadcasting Fawad Chaudhry said that more than 250m rupees would be provided for the awards which would be given `purely on merit.` We think it`s a good idea.
That being said, there are two caveats: art is not always about the national narrative and an MoU is just an MoU until it comes to fruition... Just saying.
