Clock Tower climber booked, rescuer declared hero

TOBA TEK SINGH: A man who had climbed the Clock Tower of Faisalabad on Saturday and remained there for more than two hours, resisting the rescuers, has been booked by police for damaging the tower, an important archaeological site of the city. On the other hand, the rescuer who dealt with the situation and brought the man down by putting his own life in danger has been declared as the `Hero of Faisalabad` by the district administration.

Kotwall police registered a first information report (FIR) on the complaint of Faisalabad Municipal Corporation Sub-Engineer Imtiaz Ali.

According to the FIR, Muhammad Imran Ansari, a resident of Saddar Bazaar, Ghulam Muhammadabad locality, had forcibly entered the historical Clock Tower and climbed to its top by using stairs. He damaged the historical tower, causing a loss whose estimate was yet to be made.

The suspect has been shifted to the district jail on judicial remand issued by a court.

According to earlier reports, Imran was an addict and he made a suicide bidby trying to jump off the Clock Tower.

He threw things at the rescuers to push them away while a rescuer had to put his own life at risk to bring him down.

Faisalabad Deputy Commissioner Imran Hamid Sheikh on Sunday visited the house of Rescue 1122 staffer Abdul Rehman who showed bravery in dealing with the man on the tower.

The DC declared him as the `Hero of Faisalabad 2022` as during the rescue activity, he was not only hit with a brick by Imran but he was also pushed down but he bravely faced the situation and succeeded to overpower him.

The DC gave Rehman a cash prize of Rs50,000 along with a bouquet.

ACCIDENTS: Two men died while three members of the same family were injured critically in Faisalabad`s tehsil Jaranwala on Faisalabad Road when their car rammed into a roadside tree due to speeding.

Rescue 1122 said the family belonging to Chak 624-GB, Harrianwala, was on its way to Jaranwala to attend a wedding ceremony of a relative. The deceased who were cousins were identified as Mobeen Nisar (15) and Umair Tariq (30) while the injured members of the family were identified two brothers UsmanTufall (20) and Sajid Tufail (18) and Laraib Tariq (25), the brother of deceased Umair. Three injured men were shifted to the Jaranwala Tehsil Headquarters Hospital (T HQ).

Meanwhile, in a fog-related accident in Faisalabad, one Muhammad Rafiq (50), a resident of Toba Tek Singh, died.

According to Faisalabad Saddar police, the deceased was travelling on his motorcycle when a truck coming from the opposite direction ran him over near Fesco Grid Station on the Jaranwala Road. As a result, Rafiq die d on the spot.

ROADS: The long-awaited construction of the bumpy roads around Faisalabad`s fish market near the Novelty Cinema Overhead Bridge has started.

Speaking at the launch of the worl(, DC Imran Hamid Sheikh said broken fish market roads were not only causing accumulation of the dirty water but they were also creating foul smell for residents of nearby localities.

He directed the officials of the Water and Sanitation Agency, the metropolitan corporation and waste management company to formulate a plan to keep the fish market clean on a daily basis.
