RAWALPINDI: The government of Punjab has launched the mega projects of Daducha Dam and Rawalpindi Ring Road to solve the two main issues of water and traffic congestion in the garrison city.

Giving a briefing to officials of 42nd mid-career management course inland study tour, Commissioner Aamir Khattak said work was currently underway on various mega projects in Rawalpindi.

`Rawalpindi Ring Road`s completion date is December 2025. After its completion, it will not only solve traffic problems but will also emerge as an industrial hub.

Apart from this, the construction of Daducha Dam has also been started to provide 35 million gallons daily drinking water to Rawalpindi,` he said.

The meeting with 13 officials belonging to different service groups was given a briefing on the division and district profiles.

They were told that Rawalpindi district comprised seven tehsils covering an area of 4402 square kilometres with a total population of 5.745 million.

Mr Khattak said that Leh Nullah, Kutchery Chowk, Safe City projects, Dreams Water Supply Schemes, revamping of Holy Family and Benazir Bhutto Hospital were other projects on which work had been started.

As special measures by Punjab government, a mobile health service called Clinic on Wheels, a 150-bed rehabilitation centre at Wah General Hospital, upgradation of Pirwadhai Bus Stand, slaughterhouse, freelance IT and construction of a gymkhana in all districts had also been started. The commissioner said that efforts were underway to provide better educational facilities to the residents.

`There are 1809 educational institutions and 17 special centres across in the district. Divisional Public Schools have also been started in addition to the prominent education schemes of the Department of E ducation in Public Schools,` he said.

In addition, specialclasses have been organisedfor transgenders community at Government Islamic Higher Secondary School. The district has 146 health faculty centres to provide quality medical facilities not only to the residents of Rawalpindi but also to people of the surrounding areas.
