Khelta Punjab Games see winners, runners-up

LAHORE: Gujranwala defeated Multan by nine runs to win the title in the Khelta Punjab Games inter-division cricket at the NPSC Cycling Velodrome on the third day of the games on Saturday.

Batting first, Gujranwala scored 108 in six overs for the loss of three wickets. Salman hammered a knock of 64 runs and later was adjudged man of the match. He smashed 10 sixes in his whirlwind knock.

In reply, Multan were restricted to a paltry total of 99 for the loss of four wickets. The winning team was awarded a cheque for Rs300,000 while the runner-up team got a cheque for Rs200,000.

Lahore annexed the Boys` badminton title crushing Multan 2-0 in the final. Rawalpindi notched up the title in the girls` section, also defeating Multan 2-0 in the final.

In table tennis boys` title clash, Lahore thrashed Gujranwala 3-0 in the final.Gujranwala scooped up the title in the girls` section, outclassing Faisalabad 3-0.

Sahiwal grabbed the gold medal in the kabaddi, outplaying Dera Ghazi Khan Iin the final 44-20.In the athletics, Rawalpindi`s Pakeeza Amjad took first position in the high jump girls event followed by Faisalabad`s Manahal and Bahawalpur`s Saira Latif who clinched the second and third positions, respectively.

Ammar Ahmed of Faisalabad, Abu Bakar of Sahiwal and Usman Ghani of Bahawalpur got first, second and third positions in the boys high jump event.

M Yousuf of Lahore took first position, M Iftikhar of Bahawalpur second and M Dawood of Faisalabad took third position in discus throw event.

Khadija of Faisalabad was declared first in the girls` discus throw event. Mahnoor of Lahore and Gujranwala`s Samia finished inthis contest.

Alam Ali of Sahiwal took first position in the boys` long jump event while M Noman of Sargodhaand M Hassan of Bahawalpur took second and third positions respectively.

In the Girls` long jump event, Lahore`s Kinza Sarfraz took first position, Faisalabad`s Azka and Sargodha`s Munazza Javed remained second and third.

In girls 400 meters, Kinza Sarfraz of Lahore took first position, Gujranwala`s Malaika second and Sahiwal`sInsha took third position. In the 400 meter race of boys, Haseeb Ahmed of Lahore, Usman Munir of Faisalabad and Arsalan Ahmed of Sargodha were declared first, second and third.

In football, Lahore defeated Multan 1-0 in the first match while Gujranwala defeated Rawalpindi 3-0 in the second match of the day.

In Taekwondo boys -50kg category, Faizan Hassan of DG Khan division defeated Multan`s M Ageeg. Rohan Arshad of Lahore defeated Kashan Bukhari of Bahawalpur in the -58kg category fight. M Bilal of Lahore defeated Haroon of Gujranwala in the 63kg category while M Rehan of DG Khan defeated M Shahzeb of Gujranwala in the -67kg category.Sports Reporter
