LAHORE: An accountability court on Wednesday indicted two suspects for their alleged role in the billions of rupees DHA City scandal.

However, both suspects - Hammad Arshad and former project director of DHA City retired Brig Khalid Nazir Butt - pleaded not guilty and opted to contest trial. The court summoned prosecution witnesses on next date of hearing.

The National Accountability Bureau alleged that Hammad Arshad, CEO of Globaco, had secured a contract from DHA-EME in 2009 to acquire 25,000 kanal land for the establishment of DHA City. It said the company failed to acquire the agreed land and issued allotment letters and collected around Rs15.47 billion from public. The bureau said the suspects transferred the amount to his personal accounts and used it for other business.

Butt was accused of signing a vague contract with Globaco Company and allowing it to launch the project without acquisition of land. The court adjourned hearing for March 13.
