HYDERABAD: Members of the Young Doctors` Association (YDA) Hyderabad chapter staged a token boycott of OPDs and wards of Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) Hyderabad and Jamshoro branches for two hours on the third consecutive day on Wednesday.

Staging a protest sit-in at the Liberty Chowk outside the LUH Hyderabad, they demanded of the Sindh government to pay increment in the stipend to 250 postgraduate students (PGs), implement the decision by the government to increase the paid slots of PGs and ensure payment of outstanding stipend to over 200 PGs who had been working without stipend for 14 months. As a result of the sit-in, a traffic jam was witnessed on the road.

Carrying banners and placards, charged PGs shouted slogans against the Sindh government and Liaquat University Medical and Health Sciences (LUMHS) Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Noshad A. Shaikh. The protest was led by YDA Hyderabad president Dr Murad Qureshi, general secretary Asad Pathan and others.

Talking to reponers, Dr Qureshi announced that YDA members would stage a protest sit-in outside the LUMHS VC office on Thursday (today) for acceptance of their demands. The YDA would continue their token boycott and protest on Thursday, he said.

LUH senior doctors said that boycott of work during the peak hours from 10am to 12 noon caused huge problems for the patients and staff of the casualty ward as most of the patients were moved to the casualty ward during those hours.
