Bureau Report 2017-03-02
PESHAWAR: The students of various educational institutions belonging to Federally Administered Tribal Areas have announced to participate in the sit-in that will be held in Islamabad on March 12 against delay in merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Speaking at a news conference at Peshawar Press Club on Wednesday, Qabail Talba Mahaz leader Nisar Baz said that federal government was delaying merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He said that delay in merger of Fata with the province was causing unrest among the tribal people.

He said that the committee, led by Sartaj Aziz, had presented recommendations to the government about merger of tribal areas with the province but some political parties were forcing Nawaz Sharif to delay the process.

Mr Baz said that the delay was tantamount to depriv-ing tribal people of their due rights. He said that most of tribal people wante d merger of Fata with Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

He demanded implementation of the reforms package in tribal areas. However, he expressed concerns over some points of Fata reforms, particularly `Rewaj Act`. He said that the Act was another form of Frontier Crime Regulation, which was not acceptable to them.

Flanked by Bilawal Afridi and Qayum Shinwari, Mr Baz said that Fata reforms should immediately be endorsed by the federal cabinet without any further delay.

He demanded six per cent share in the next National Finance Commission (NFC) Award for Fata. He called upon the government to repeal Article 246 and Article 247 of the Constitution to get the tribal people rid of FCR.

Mr Baz said that tribal students would boycott classes on March 12 to ensure their full participation in the sit-in in Islamabad.
