US-Taliban peace agreement welcomed

LAHORE: Various politico-religious parties have welcomed the peace agreement between the US and the Afghan Taliban hoping the move will usher in a new era of peace and development in the region.
Pal(istan Awami Tehreek Secretary General Khurram Nawaz Gandapur said, in a statement on Sunday, the world had lauded the positive role played by Pakistan in establishing peace in Afghanistan and advised India to learn a lesson from the end of the Afghan wars waged by the defunct Soviet Union and United States. He urged all the countries surroundingAfghanistan to join hands for making the region a centre of peace by ending proxy wars there so that the region could benefit from the economic fruits of the peaceful environment.
JUP president and vice president of MMA religious alliance Pir Ijaz Hashmi said pull-out of American troops from the war-torn country would be a big challenge and that results of the peace agreement would depend upon the sincerity both sides would show in implementing the same. He said wars had never been a solution to any dispute and that all controversies could be best solved through talks.
