Session on a novel

LAHORE: The English Literary Society on Sunday organised a session on Academy of Letters resident director Muhammad Asim Butt`s novel Bhaid.

The session was held at Town Hall and attended by English Literary Society president Mirza Athar Baig, Farooq Khalid, Zafar Spal, Prof Anwarul Haq, Rubia Jilani, Javaid Aftab, Ashfaq Rashid, Raza Naeem, Dr Abrar Ahmad, Shiraz Altaf, Faisal Awan and Aftab Khan.

The participants saidthe novel, Bhaid, based on vernacular literature presented native, local and indigenous themes, written for the man and the woman in the street and living in the Walled City of Lahore. They declared it a traditional, realistic, descriptive and analytic novel with touches of neoclassic diction and purple prose.

The speakers said the novelist deplored disordered haste, condemned social ills and rapid rise of commercialism in the Walled City as they turne d pe ople short-fused, ending historical, cultural and traditional heritage in the city.
