WHILE the government introduced a beautiful slogan mar nahin pyar to protect the school children from corporal punishment, the implementation of the relevant orders seems to be impossible given the culture prevailing in our educational institutions.
Many students run away from schools and quitbeingstudentsbecause ofthe fear of punishment.
But the teachers and administrators are notbotheredby any suchincident.It is true that some students do need to be dealt with strictly, but the mode of guidance should be civilised. I had the occasion to visit a government school recently, and was shocked to see the students being beaten with sticks as if they were animals.
The use of sticks either on hand or on any other part of the body is dangerous and unacceptable as it can make a student disabled for the rest of his/her life.
Federal and provincial governments should install cameras in classrooms and take teachers to task so this appalling culture could be eliminated forever.
