LAHORE: The All Pakistan Wapda Hydro Electric Workers Union has demanded the government raise wages of the workers commensurate with price hike and impose taxes on the elite and feudal lords.

Addressing a protest rally against price hike and privatisation here on Wednesday, union secretary general Khurshid Ahmad expressed concern over the rising prices of essential commodities, thereby, raising the sufferings of the working class and poor segments of society.

He said the electricity workers had been perform-ing their duties at the risk of their lives on account of non-recruitment of the staff. Through a resolution, the workers urged the prime minister to accept legitimate demands of the workers and not to privatise national public utility otherwise they would be compelled to march on Islamabad.

The rally was also addressed, among others, by Haji Younas, Osama Tariq, Rana Shakoor, Muzaffar Mateen, Hasan Munir Bhatti, Nosher Khan, Haji Liaqat, Malik Zahid, Liaqat Ali Gujjar, Rana Shahbaz, Naveed Ashig Dogar, Amanullah Khan and Rana Shafiq. -Staff Reporter
