THIS is with reference to the report `Charged parking abolished in Karachi` (Feb 18). I am a regular visitor to the office of the Intellectual Property Organisation (IPO) in Karachi. On every visit I had to pay Rs100 as parking charge to the attendant.
This time I thought I would be spared the hassle because, as per the report, charged parking had been abolished in the city.
But that was not the case. I still had to dish out the same amount, and was even handed a token (No 002539). The parking attendant insisted that the amount was the official parking fee imposed by the Karachi Metropolitan Corporation (KMC).
I wonder who is at fault here. Is it the minister who announced the decision? Is it the parking mafia? Is it the media which, perhaps, carried incorrect information? Somebody somewhere must do something to match government announcements with the ground realitiy.
